Welcome to the Town of Frankfort. Frankfort is the
parent town of several neighboring towns. Frankfort, originally designated as
Marsh Bay, was first settled in 1760 and was incorporated June 25, 1799 as the
70th town of Maine. Part was set off to form
Prospect and part
to form Hampden Feb. 24, 1794; Part set off to Hampden in 1816; Part set off to
Swanville Feb. 21, 1832; Part set off to form part of Searsport Feb. 13, 1845;
Part set off to form
Winterport Mar.
12, 1860; Part set off to Monroe Feb. 21, 1863; Part set off to
Winterport Feb.
18, 1867.
