Welcome to the Town of Washington. Previous designation Putnam. Settled in 1775. Incorporated February 27, 1811 as Putnam the 184th town of Maine. Name changed to Washington January 31, 1823. Boundary between Jefferson and Washington established February 23, 1828. Part of Palermo annexed April 11, 1854. Principle settlements, Washington, West Washington, Stickney Corner and Razorville.

Major body of water is Washington Pond and Medomak River.

Washington is bounded North by Hibbert's Gore, Palermo and Liberty ; East by Appleton and Union ; South by Waldoboro and Jefferson ; West by Somerville.
