I have just started and am still entering the living members of my very large family. It may be a while before I can get the surnames I am researching up on a site.

I still need to get the requisite consent forms signed. Minnesota has strict data privacy/confidentiality laws that I'd prefer to have those forms signed first.

I'll check back later on though. There are still some pages I'd like to look at again.

The pages are easy to read and the background doesn't interfere with my abiity to read what you have up.

BTW - you probably know my cousin in Ellsworth: Richard Spinney. His mother was my father's sister. Our mutual grandfather was William J. Sylvester of Etna then Brewer.

Has this to say: We managed to find the second family of Granville Woodrow Sawyer (who changed his name to Thomas Woodrow Sawyer). Now we are working to find his daughter from his first marriage in Washington, DC, sometime in the 1930's, so here we go again...

Searching for daughter of Granville Woodrow Sawyer (born 1914, Roper, NC – later went by name of Thomas Woodrow Sawyer) from first marriage in Washington, D.C., to someone who might have been named Marilyn? Daughter might have been named Barbara? This daughter may have been approx. 18 months old when her parents divorced (her mother subsequently married a senator, we think) and she visited Granville’s second family once in Louisiana when she was approx. 5 years old – probably before 1947. Granville left the first family for awhile over (we think) difficulty with his wife’s parents, thus also alienating him from his own family of origin. At this time, he went to Houston, Texas, for awhile. Granville’s siblings were Minnie Leigh (who he may have called “Minnie Pearl”), George Martin, Sterling, Helen, and Susie Augusta. Granville’s children from his second marriage are Thomas Woodrow, Eugene Woodrow, Alice Craig, Ronald Samuel, Jacquelyn Wilson, William Douglas, and James Robin. If anyone has any information on the whereabouts of the child from his first marriage, please contact Jean Johnson (Oak Hill, VA) at jtjjohnson@juno.com. Family rumor has it that his first wife re-married to a U.S. Senator. Granville Woodrow Sawyer worked in the kitchen and as a bellhop at the Press Club in Washington, DC, during the Depression. Has this to say: My maternal grandmother was born a Sylvester. Her father was supposedly born and raised in a well to do Roman Catholice family in Alsace-Lorraine, France. He was said to be stuying for the priesthood under pressure from his family, which was not what he wanted. I remember being told the story of him running away from this fate only a day before he was to be ordained. This is a dramatic and romantic story, which has no basis for fact.

I know I cannot find anything about him other than his burial place. He died in 1893 in Butler County Ohio and is buried in Mound Cemetary in Monroe, Ohio (Butler Co.)
He had three given names in some order, which in not clear to me. They were Joseph William and Henry. His only son was named William Pleasant Joseph Sylvester (he never married and died in a construction accident in Chicago in 1924 or'25).

My great grandfather also had 7 daughters, one of which was my grandmother: Carrie Leona Sylvester. I have the names and birthdates of most of his children and his wife (Samantha Angeline Laymon). My grandmother was 5 when her father died in 1893. He left a poverty stictened family.

We have never been able to establish a marriage record, nor an imigration record. I remember being told he possibly came into the country through Canada. I have not been able to establish this.

If anyone has any information about this elusive ancestor of mine, I would be most happy to hear it.

Has this to say: I am trying to correct some misinformation, regarding my lineage, on the Hauss/Wellman line. Several genealogies have stated that a daughter, named Mary Frances Hauss, married Mr. Shoudy. Actually, daughter Frances Hauss died at age 12. She was born before my father, Ralph Edmunds Hauss, who was born in 1907. Four daughters were born, after my father, the first two died in infancy while Aline Rebecca and Elizabeth Naomi survived. There were a total of 7 children born to Edward Charles Hauss and Susie [Susan] Anna Wellman. Now, I live in Brooksville, Florida [and have for the past 24 years]. Frances Shoudy-Rector died here in Zepherhills, Florida, after 1976. Edward and Susie Hauss' first born was Edward Leo [1900]. He died in 1919, by drowning. I hope that this information is of interest to those Wellman Cousins [Leonard Wellman and Donald James Wellman, in particular, who have posted the wrong information on genealogy.com and ancestry.com.]. I am searching for info regarding Charles Glidden (born 1632). I saw your website and noticed a bit of info on google but somehow couldn't get the rest of the info. My info from another relative says "born & married in England - moved to Exeter,NH...." How did you find out where C. Glidden was born? I am new at all of this and even though much has been given to me via a cousin there is no data before he made the boat trip over. I would love to know which boat he came over on, etc. Thanks for any help that you may be able to pass along. We only have one branch of the family tree (Gliddens) that dates far back. I am trying to reconstruct the others.

I looked at my Sylvester information last night when I got home and discovered that your grandfather, Vivian Daniel Sylvester, and my grandfather, Willis Clifton Sylvester, were cousins. So that means we are cousins as well. I'm not sure if we are third cousins or first cousins, thrice removed. I don't know which designation is correct.
Grandpa's father's (Daniel), brothers were Albie Warren and Dummer from their father's (Daniel) marriage to Eliza Wolf Friend.
